Transforming Automotive Aftermarket: Pat’s Success with INTAMSYS 3D Printing Solutions

Discover how Pat, a visionary entrepreneur, leveraged INTAMSYS 3D printing technology to overcome manufacturing challenges and revolutionize the automotive aftermarket industry with his innovative product, the “Cup Keeper Plus.”

Pat, an innovative entrepreneur, created the “Cup Keeper Plus,” a versatile accessory for car owners that securely holds various beverage containers. When a major U.S. retailer placed a massive order, Pat faced significant manufacturing challenges, particularly with precise labeling and packaging requirements.

The retailer’s specific requirements for label size and orientation posed a challenge due to the curved and tapered design of the Cup Keeper Plus. Consistently applying labels to thousands of units required custom fixtures and high-strength, wear-resistant materials.

Leveraging Advanced 3D Printing Technology

Pat’s talented designer used INTAMSYS 3D printing technology to create custom tools and fixtures. They developed the ‘Label Peeler’ device to automate label application and the ‘Cup Fixture Assembly’ to ensure proper alignment and stability during the labeling process. The INTAMSYS FUNMAT PRO 310 3D printer and Nylon 12-CF material, reinforced with carbon fiber, were pivotal in achieving the desired results.

The designer converted 3D CAD files into STL files, and the INTAMSYS FUNMAT PRO 310 printer, with its built-in drying chamber and specialized support materials, ensured optimal material performance and high-quality surface finishes. The printer’s exceptional dimensional accuracy met the precise requirements for the tooling and fixtures.

The 3D-printed “Label Peeler” and “Cup Fixture” assemblies became indispensable tools, enabling Pat’s team to establish a highly efficient and reliable labeling process. This success led to additional orders for the Cup Keeper Plus, showcasing the benefits of design flexibility, cost efficiency, and time savings provided by INTAMSYS 3D printing solutions.

Innovating the Future of Automotive Aftermarket with INTAMSYS

INTAMSYS enabled Pat to meet the retailer’s packaging demands and achieve significant advantages in prototype validation, tooling fixtures, and small-batch production. This success story highlights the transformative power of 3D printing in revolutionizing manufacturing processes.

The application of high-end filaments made of high-performance plastics such as PEI is not new to the field of 3D Printing. However, it requires both, a wide range of skills (materials and production) and the appropriate machinery.

Thanks to its large-format 3D printer from INTAMSYS, 4D Concepts can now process a wide range of high-end plastics with excellent thermal and mechanical properties for prototyping. Parts are out of PEI 9085.
